“Fort” Free standing works 2021

Trumpet, African drum, wood, copper, hardware, weighted base. Silver spray paint. Approximately 6’x2’x2.75’.

The trumpet, my cousin Mark Stephens, given to me and his son EZ… after we broke it while messing around as kids. He introduced me to Coltrane! (Photographer unknown M.Stephens playing in high school with the trumpet!

The drum was given to me by Mrs. Miller, owner of Nkiru Books it was her daughter Leothy’s, the founder of the bookstore. I worked (played) there in the 90’s with Talib Kweli, it’s current owner.
